Cryopen is a safe and effective method of freezing and removing benign skin lesions. It uses a fine jet of high pressured, liquid nitrous oxide to destroy unwanted lesions quickly and accurately.
This procedure is a convenient choice because it is the most painless method out there with minimal disruption to surrounding tissue.
Since 2018 the NHS is no longer removing benign skin lesions for cosmetic purposes.
We can treat a wide range of lesions including:
Please Note: If we are unsure if your lesion is safe to treat, you will be required to provide written proof from a dermatologist that your lesion is benign. You can save time by using our Dermatologist ‘Mole Check’ service or alternatively visit your GP for a referral.

Cryosurgical treatment has been established to be extremely safe and a low risk procedure. It directly treats the lesion without touching the surrounding tissue.
The treatment is virtually painless and generally very well tolerated, even for those with a low pain threshold.
Some patients may experience a mild stinging for only a few seconds.
Depending on the lesion, most will shed after 5-14 days but can take up to 4-6 weeks.
Once the lesion has shed, there may be a slight residual redness where the new skin tissue is forming. This may take 3-6 months to fade.
Due to the nature of Cryopen treatments, less aftercare is needed than with other methods such as electrocautery, cold knife or laser. The effected area is often known to heal quickly with minimal issue.
For 48 – 72 hours after treatment you must not sunbath or use other heat treatments such as sunbeds, sauna or steam. The lesion must also be kept dry during this time, when showering the lesion can be covered with a plaster.
Creams, ointments, deodorant or any other topical cosmetics must be avoided (directly on the lesion) until the lesion has fully healed.
Depending on how many lesions we are treating in one session will determine the length of your appointment. One lesion can take 5-20 seconds to treat.
Most lesions can be treated in as little as one 1-2 sessions. Larger and deeper lesions may require 1-4 sessions.
Mild swelling and redness may occur for 1-2 hours after treatment. The treated site then darkens. It is not uncommon for a blister to develop on the treatment site.
It is important that you do not use retinoids, exfoliating acids or physical exfoliants for 48 hours prior to treatment.
Do not use fake tan or gradual tanning products for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
Avoid any ablative treatments such as dermabrasion, dermaplanning and ablative lasers for 4 weeks prior to treatment.
Avoid Laser or IPL treatments for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
